How Often Do You Do It?

Most adults do it about 17 times a day, while children do it up to 400 times a day! It can be contageous, or you can do it alone. It provides a workput in terms of muscles used and it often has very little to do with telling of a joke. And we were doing it long before we could even talk. What is it???? It's laughing and it is definitly something we need to do as often as possible!

Here are a few health benefits of laughing:

  • Reduce stress hormones
  • Increases T-Cells to fight infection
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Release negative emotions

Believe it or not, even animals laugh! Studies have shown that dogs, chimps and even rats laugh. In fact - rats enjoy being tickled and seek more of it. They are actually kmown to bond with their human ticklers, they produce chirping sounds when "laughing" and they tend to seek out other chirpers. Sounds as though " like attracts like" - even in the rat community!

Getting to where you want to go requires leaving where you are. You must accept where you are (what is) before you can have the life you desire. Ignoring or denying what is, precludes successful change. What are you unwilling to confess?

  • "I'm uncertain about the reliability of my faith."
  • "My choices are limited because I am in so much debt."
  • "I want to be liked so much I'm afraid of demanding much of others."
  • "My lack of interest in others produces short term relationships."
  • "I'm afraid to confront others for fear of what I might find."
  • "Since I mistrust myself, I tend to mistrust others."

Successful change begins by acknowledging what is. Positive thinking has it's place, but only after accepting what's so. It's the first step of virtually all 12-step programs. And it's the first step to the life of your dreams.

Most of us give more planning and preparation to our summer vacation or weekend getaway that we do to our lives. This would be a great week to review where you are and where you want to be in a couple of key areas:

  • Update or create your will
  • Evaluate your life insurance
  • Review your disability insurance
  • Your plan in case of identity theft
  • A complete physical examination
  • Succession plan for your business

There is a peace of mind that comes from having your affairs in order. This sense of preparedness is empowering ans brings confidence. It's about removing distractions and doubts while reducing the burden on others.

How to hold a pity party.

1. Pick a time when you would normally be focused on business/work.

2. Worry about your bills, the fight with your spouse or lack of advancement.

3. Appear distant and preoccupied when you deal with people.

4. Complain or commiserate about how things should be.

5. Repeat whenever tested by change, challenge or difficulty,

This is a sure-fire recipe to keep your life/success small and your influence insignificant. Yet, it is acted out daily in countless situations. Instead, here's what the successful people do:

1. Show up early to work and set clear boundaries between personal and professional.

2. Intentionally create a "helpful attitude" of present time consciousness.

3. Generously offer themselves as an authentic, certain and available servent.

4. Be on a constant lookout for ways to acknoledge and honor those who help them.

5. Make themselves interested, not interesting.

Remember, it's be do have. Not do have be!

"You shouldn't have!"

It's squealed with delight at Christmas, birthdays, wedding, anniversaries and other times in which gifts are given. What's your reaction when they thank you for the nice things you may have done for them?

"Shucks, it was nothing." "Happens all the time." "Thanks, no problem." "It's my pleasure."

We're told that it's better to give than recieve. Which may be why we have the act of giving down cold. But do you know how to recieve? Appreciation expressed be people is a gift. How do you recieve their kind words?

Minimizing their compliment diminishes them. How about: "Thanks for being the great person you are."

How do you say thanks?

If it's true, as Einstein asserted, that problems are never solved at the same level of thinking that created them, it's helpful to be healthier than those around you.

Before you run out to get adjusted, remember, health is optimum physical, mental and social well-being.  Are you healthier mentally than others?  Socially healther?

Want a healthy, well-adjusted (no pun intended) family?  Start with yourself.  Or as Gandhi observed, "You must be the change you want to see in the world".

"I need some motivation."

Where do you think motivation comes from? If you lack motivation, you might be looking for it in the wrong place! Lasting motivation can't be acquired from seminars, CDs (or even weekly emails) because outside-in solutions rarely last. That's one reason the up-tick from a "motivational" seminar is so short lived.

Satisfaction kills motivation.

If you no longer get to the office early; if you lack energy; if you're merely going through the motions, then it's likely you're satisfied with the status quo.

"But I don't like things as they are!"

Sure you do. It's safe. Predictable. Easy to control. Comfortable. No confrontation. Oh, it may be less than you desire, but it's not bad enough to risk something different. It'll have to get worse first. This is what creates that up and down roller-coaster life. It's why patients start care and stop care.

You create your reality by what you believe. Your life is the result of all the beliefs you hold. You created those beliefs, which are merely assumptions about what you hope or think is true. Naturally, those with different beliefs have different life experiences.

If you believe chiropractic doesn't produce "miracles" you'll never witness one.

If you believe your best days are behind you, you'll assume a passive, reactive stance and you'll be proven correct.

What do you believe to be true that isn't? What do you believe that your more successful friends don't? What do you believe that your colleagues don't? What would you have to believe about yourself to be able to create new beliefs?

Your intention requires attention.

How long can you hold a thought, idea or goal in your mind? How easily are you distracted by the petty, the popular or the expedient?

To manifest a big idea, a big movement or a big change requires constant attention. If your attention span is brief, someone or something with greater concentration, resources or attention will usurp your intent. Your ability to maintain focus is the key. This is why so few of us exhibit the genius to which we have each been endowed.

Try it now. Visualize a happy, healthy, and robust life. How long can you hold this mental image without being distracted by some other thought, sound or shiny object? 10 seconds? A minute?

Attention is the fuel required for manifesting your intention. It is the discipline of achievers.

Dr . Dougg Asks some important questions of interest to Lodi residents - Chiropractor Lodi Dr . Dougg Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Lodi folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
If you have a fever, are you sick or healthy?
Chiropractors love asking this question because it gets to the root of the chiropractic difference. Turns out fevers, vomiting, coughing and even sneezing are all healthy responses. It means your body is working correctly. Taking medications to suppress these natural processes can actually prolong your recovery.
